About the Product:
From a project namely “Empowering the Pulau Ketam community towards sustainable plastic waste management and responsible plastic consumption”, the project is funded by Yayasan Hasanah and administered by the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS). The project goal is to mobilize and establish Pulau Ketam community driven initiatives in championing sustainable plastic waste management and responsible plastic consumption, as one of the ways to practice and mainstream the responsible use of plastic and its management at the community level.

In this project, a plastic upcycling machine is purchased and provided to the Pulau Ketam community to initiate plastic upcycling activity in Pulau Ketam. There are three upcycled plastic products at the moment produced by the community, namely crab pendant keychain (with wordings of Pulau Ketam), ruler (15cm) and coaster, as shown in the pictures.

The UPPs are made of bottle caps, straws, detergent bottles and many other recyclable plastics, which mainly are High-density Polyethylene (HDPE, type 2 plastic) and Polypropylene (PP, type 5 plastic).

Each product has different combinations and patterns of colour, unique in its own way. All profits will go back to the community and sustainability of the plastic upcycling in Pulau Ketam. Do consider supporting this initiative by purchasing a product from them.
